Step-1. Press Windows+R keys on the keyboard. The Run dialog box will appear.

Step-2. Now you just have to type “msconfig” and then click Ok.

Step-3. Now click Service tab checkmark the square box right next to hide all Microsoft services

Step-4. Now on the bottom right-hand side you will find “Disable All Option“, Click that and then press Ok

Step-5. Last but not least Restart your PC so that it can refresh all the settings and can apply the changes effectively.

Step-6. Launch Windows Update once again and press download.

2. Turn off the Windows Firewall temporarily

Sometimes because of Windows Firewall windows update may get stuck. This will lead to Windows update stuck at 0% issue. You can turn off the windows firewall and check if it resolves the issue. Follow these steps:

Step-1. Go to Control Panel.

Step-2. Go through the list of icons and clock on Windows Firewall.

Step-3. On the left-hand side, you can select to turn Windows Firewall on or off.

Step-4. Select Turn off Windows firewall(not recommended). Then click Ok.

 

Step-5. Try and download Windows Update once again.

3. Use Anti-virus

If you already have Anti-Virus installed on your PC you can use it to scan the virus and fix the Windows update stuck at 0% issue. However, if you don’t have anti-virus, there are many third-party anti-virus programs available. Follow these steps:

Step-1. Download and install a reliable antivirus software. I’d suggest using Avast or Norton.
Note: Skip to the next step if you already have an antivirus installed in your system.

Step-2. Launch the antivirus program and do a “Full Scan” of your system.

Step-3. Wait till scanning completes and then repair the issues.

Step-4. Now try updating your Windows.

This might have solved the problem on your computer. However, if the problem still persists, try the next method.

4. Restart Windows Update

You can even stop the download and restart it once again in order to resolve the Windows update stuck at 0% issue. Follow the steps mentioned below:

Step-1. Press Windows+R keys on the keyboard together. The Run dialog box will pop up.

Step-2. Type services.msc and then click Ok

Step-3. Find Windows Update on the list. Right click on it and select STOP.

 

Step-4. Now open C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and delete all the files.

Step-5. Go to Windows Update service and restart it once again.

Step-6. Launch Windows Update once again and press download

You must have fixed the error by now.
