How to Remove Write Protection on SD Card [4 Ways]

Well, Write-protection prevents anything to be Written or Deleted from an SD card means until it’s turned off nothing can be done with that Card.

Unlocking the Micro SD Card using Card Adapter

Step 1:- Take an SD Card Adapter and insert your Write Protected SD Card into it.

Step 2:- Place the SD card Adapter on a flat surface with the label facing upward. Insert the SD Card into the SD card adapter, and place it on a flat surface, with its label up.

Step 3:- Locate the lock switch. It should be on the upper-left side of the SD card. It Generally looks like a small white or silver tab that protrudes from the left side of the SD card as given in the below picture.

Step 4:- Slide the lock switch toward the top of the SD card until it stops. By this method, you can easily turn off SD card’s write protection which enables you to store data on your SD card.  To completely erase the contents of the SD card, format it as a new card. If the card adapter’s lock still keeps locking, the act of inserting the card into the card reader could be switching the lock back. A small piece of tape over the locking switch will prevent this from happening. After following these 4 steps try to copy paste a file in the SD Card. It should work properly now after formatting. Removing write Protection by Formatting the SD Card

Write Protection from a PenDrive or an SD Card can be easily removed by simply formatting the SD Card. To do this follow these simple steps:-

  • Connect the SD card or Pen drive to your computer.
  • Open My Computer/This PC.
  • Right, Click on your SD card/pen drive and click Format in the drop-down menu.
  • Click Restore device defaults to the next window.
  • Now Click Start.
  • Click Ok the warning message.

This should solve your SD card problem and the write-protection from your SD Card will be removed. Now you can copy-paste data into it. After doing the steps star off with a fresh start by formatting the SD Card. If the method does not work for you, try the other mentioned methods below:-

 

How to Remove Write Protection on Micro SD Card using REGEDIT

Most of the problems and error are easily solved editing some files from the registry. In this method, we will try to remove the Write Protection on your SD Card using Registry Edit in Windows. To do so follow the below Steps:-

  • First of all, you need to plug in your Write Protected SD Card in your pc.
  • Now go to Start Menu and search for ‘Regedit’ in the search bar.
  • Click on Regedit.
  • Now Navigate to the following Key address:-

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

  • On the right-hand pane of the REGEDIT, you’ll find Write protection. double-click on it and change its value anywhere between 1-10.
  • Now close the REGEDIT.
  • Restart your pc and plug your SD card back in and you’ll no more find the write protection on it.
  • To completely erase the contents of the SD card, format it as a new card.

By using this method, you can easily fix the write-protection error from your micro SD Card. This trick will definitely solve the write-protection error from your SD Card. But still, if this trick doesn’t solve your problem, you can simply move on to the next trick to solve disable the write-protection from your SD Card.

4. Remove Write Protection from any SD Card using Diskpart

By this method, write-protection can be removed from your SD Card by using Diskpart from the Command Prompt of your PC. Follow these steps to easily remove write protection from your SD Card:-

  • First of all plug in your SD card.
  • Now open Start Menu and search for cmd in the search bar.
  • Open the cmd searched, by clicking on it.
  • Now enter the following commands in the cmd:-
  1. diskpart
  2. list disk
  3. select disk x (where x is no. of your SD Card)
  4. attributes disk clear read-only
  5. clean
  6. create partition primary
  7. format fs=fat32
  8. exit

This is an effective trick and will definitely solve your every error of your SD Card including this write-protection error. One of the above mentioned methods will definitely work for you.

Now you can easily copy paste anything you want on your SD Card without any error.
